Welcome to Week 3 of Screen-Free Summer!
Ad
This week, we’re challenging families to swap a little screen time for low-cost, real-life fun with a family adventure for £10 or less.
Your mission is simple: plan a family day out, stick to a £10 budget and see how far you can make it go.
Screen-Free Summer week 3 challenge: Family Adventure!
Can you create a family day out for £10 or less?
Your adventure could be a trip somewhere new, a family picnic, a free museum, a local event or simply exploring somewhere nearby that you’ve never visited before.
The aim isn’t to spend loads. It’s about trying something different, enjoying quality time together away from screens and making some brilliant family memories along the way.
Need some family adventure inspiration?
There are plenty of ways to plan a fun day together without blowing the budget.
One MadeForMums family took on the challenge at Beaumont Park, where they explored woodland trails and castle ruins, visited the playground and discovered that the simplest part of their day was the biggest hit.
Other ideas include:
- Pack a picnic and explore a local park or beauty spot.
- Visit a free museum, gallery or attraction.
- See what free family events are happening near you.
- Explore a neighbourhood, town or walking route you’ve never tried before.
- Take a bus or train somewhere nearby and spend the day exploring.
- Create your own family trail or scavenger hunt while you’re out.
- Spend your £10 on a small treat to make an otherwise free day feel extra special.
Ways to make your £10 go further:
- Take drinks, snacks or a picnic from home.
- Look for free local events, museums and activities before you set off.
- Let the children help decide how to spend your budget.
- Make getting there part of the adventure by walking, cycling or exploring somewhere close to home.
- Remember, you don’t have to spend the full £10 — a completely free adventure counts too!
What could you win this week?
Take part in our week 3 challenge and you could win a family prize bundle including:
- LIFERYDER INFINITY Scooter (worth around £140)
- Stunt Man Stu (worth around £20)
- Count and Match Wooden Set (worth around £25)
- Pets Alive (worth around £12.99)

Where will £10 take your family?
You don’t need an expensive attraction or a perfectly planned itinerary to have a great family day out. Whether you spend £10 or nothing at all, the challenge is simply to put the screens aside, try something different and enjoy an adventure together.
