Method

step 1
Mash or purée the strawberries and mango in two separate bowls. In another bowl, add the lemon juice and the banana and mash.
Little helper job: Younger children can mash the bananas with a fork, which is a great sensory activity. Older children can help purée the strawberries and mango using a hand blender with close supervision. They can also squeeze the lemon.
Grown-up job: Handle any sharp knives and supervise blending.
-
step 2
Beat the condensed milk and cream in a large bowl with an electric whisk until thick and quite stiff, a bit like clotted cream. Divide the mixture between the three bowls. Fold a fruit purée into each. Transfer each one into a freezer container and freeze until solid.
Grown-up job: Use the electric whisk and check the mixture is thick enough.
Little helper job: Children can help pour in the condensed milk, watch as the cream thickens and gently fold the fruit purées into the cream mixture using a large spoon.
Freeze for several hours or overnight until firm.
-
step 3
Purée the kiwi and sieve out any seeds if you like. Serve a scoop of each ice cream in bowls or sundae dishes and top with the kiwi sauce, sprinkles or chopped fruit.
Little helper job: Children can help purée the kiwi with supervision, choose their toppings and assemble their own colourful bowls.
Top tips for ice cream success
- Use very ripe bananas for maximum sweetness
- Freeze in shallow containers for quicker setting
- Let the ice cream sit at room temperature for 5 minutes before scooping
Creamy, fruity and naturally vibrant, this simple ice cream is a fun way to get kids excited about fruit, while creating a summer dessert that feels just a little bit special.
