Traditionally, eggs at Easter are not chocolate but real chicken's ones, coloured or painted. You can keep the tradition alive by soft-boiling some eggs in water with a little food colouring added (so they come out of the pan with their shells coloured) or you can roll up your craft-y sleeves and paint eggshells in lovely, bright patterns– with the aid of our step by step guide below.

Here's how to paint traditional eggs for Easter...
What you'll need:
- Eggs, with their egg carton
- Mug
- Paintbrush
- White glue
- Tissue paper
- Bright paints
- Old plate
*Adult supervision required
Step 1

Tap an egg sharply on the rim of a mug to make a crack. Then, using your fingers, carefully break it in half over the cup to get rid of the yolk and white.
Step 2

Wash the 2 pieces of shell carefully and leave to dry. Then, hold one half and paint white glue along its cracked edge.
Step 3

Carefully fit the other half on top and brush glue along the crack to seal. Place it in an egg carton to dry.
Step 4

Rip a piece of tissue paper into small pieces and then brush the top half of the egg with white glue.
Step 5

Press pieces of the tissue paper onto the glue and continue to glue pieces on until the top half is completely covered. Leave to dry.
Step 6

Holding the dry top half, cover the bottom of the egg with tissue paper and glue, the same way you did in steps 4 and 5. Leave to dry.
Step 7

Mix some bright paints with a little white glue on an old plate. Paint one half of the egg in a block colour, leave to dry and then paint the other half the same. When dry, decorate it with painted flowers, hearts or spots.
