Priced at £850, it includes the TRIV lx chassis, carrycot, seat unit, 2 rain covers, footmuff, hand mitts and seat pad, making it a more complete package than many compact pushchairs. About our parent tester

Becks is a first-time mum and tested the Nuna TRIV lx All-Season Set with her 6-month-old daughter, using it for everyday countryside walks, errands in town and day trips in the car. Becks is a freelance journalist and copywriter with more than 15 years’ experience. She has written product reviews for The Telegraph, Marie Claire, Good Housekeeping, The Standard, Top Ten Reviews, Livingetc and more.

How easy is the Nuna TRIV lx All-Season Set to build?

The setup is easy and took under 15 minutes. It comes with picture-led instructions as well as written ones, but assembly is so straightforward that you could almost do it with your eyes closed.

Everything just clicks in, which makes the setup smooth. The chassis comes nearly assembled, so all I had to do was hook the basket on, click in the front and rear wheels, attach the arm bar and decide which seat to use.

To attach the carrycot, you need to fit the post adaptors, which also work with Nuna car seats. These are labelled left and right, click on easily and, very cleverly, allow you to tilt the carrycot. You then click the carrycot on. To take it off, it’s just as simple: press down the buttons on either side and the carrycot releases.

For the seat unit, you click off the post adaptors and click on the seat instead.

The only thing that felt a little fiddly was adjusting the straps, which needed changing depending on whether my little one was sitting up or lying down.

What is the Nuna TRIV lx carrycot like?

The carrycot is so comfy, I would have been keen to sleep in it if I could. The mattress felt plush enough to encourage sleep — my daughter has never slept so much in a pram — yet firm enough to support little dreamers.

My baby was just under 6 months when I first used the carrycot, and she had more than enough room to kick her feet right up until she was ready to move on to the seat unit.

The carrycot comes with micro-quilted detailing and loads of lovely features. Along with being effortless to attach and detach, the canopy is water-repellent, UPF 50+ and comes with Nuna’s Dream drape, which helps block out the outside world and the elements. This made it ideal for on-the-go naps and indoor dozes, too.

Ventilation has been thought through. The mattress has mesh fabric on the back, which helped keep my daughter cool during warm weather spells and indoor naps. You can increase the airflow one step further by lifting the hood’s ventilation panel.

Of course, in the UK, warmth is just as important. That’s why it’s nice that the carrycot comes with a sturdy zip-up top cover and an integrated wind protection shield.

At 3.4kg, the carrycot is lightweight, so it’s easy to take on and off. It also folds down flat to 18.5cm in height, which is a game-changer for those lacking boot space or storage space.

But the icing on top of the carrycot cake? Its hidden storage pocket at the handle end, which offers more than enough space for your phone, keys and cards.

How effective are the Nuna TRIV lx all-season features?

I’d score the all-season features a solid 9 out of 10. The seat pad looks and feels luxurious, and it makes adventures more comfortable. Taking it on and off was easy too, and could be done in a couple of minutes.

The ventilation flap in the carrycot canopy, plus the side and back vents and peekaboo flap in the seat, make breathability quite literally a breeze. The canopy is also water-repellent and UPF 50+, which gives some extra peace of mind.

The zipped hood on the seat is extendable and comes with an extra flip-out canopy visor. However, the pushchair dropped a point because, for me, it wasn’t extendable enough to block all the sun’s rays.

Milder weather was tackled with a large footmuff made from temperature-regulating merino wool and a TENCEL™ lyocell fibre blend. The footmuff goes right up to my daughter’s head, and the drawstrings help keep cool air out and warmth in.

The pushchair also comes with soft, warm mitts which attach to the pram handle with magnets. However, when not in use, you do need to take them off, otherwise they slide down the handle.

Pushchair rain covers aren’t always the easiest to wrestle on, but the TRIV lx comes with 2 that fit easily: one for the carrycot and one for the seat. This made walking in the rain not so dreary.

It’s really useful that all these extras come in one bundle, as everything matches and, perhaps more importantly, fits. It saves you having to scour the internet with the change of the seasons for additional accessories. Take a bow, Nuna.

How easy is the Nuna TRIV lx to fold and unfold?

The Nuna TRIV lx is really easy to fold and unfold, and it can be done with the seat world-facing, parent-facing or without the seat at all.

To fold it with the seat attached, you:

To fold the pushchair when using the carrycot, you need to:

Overall, folding and unfolding felt really simple and intuitive. I love the fact that it can be done in seconds, without much thought or faff, and without taking the seat off.

How compact is the Nuna TRIV lx when folded?

Surprisingly, the pushchair folds down pretty neatly, with the seat on too. While it can’t be folded with the carrycot attached, the carrycot itself folds down if needed, making it great for smaller boots.

At 9.6kg and with a carry strap, I found the pushchair pretty easy to load into my car boot.

It’s also self-standing. Praise be. The only point to flag is that the handle will sit on the floor when folded.

I’ve been leaving the pushchair up in my entranceway, in the boot of the car or tucked away neatly for later use. I’ve also been able to tuck it into a cupboard for storage without any problem.

How good is the Nuna TRIV lx to push and steer?

Having tested it on pavements, grass, uneven paths, shops, kerbs and tight indoor spaces, the Nuna TRIV lx ticks most boxes.

You can steer this pram with one hand as it glides along, and on uneven surfaces you can lock the front wheels for extra support. I found the pushchair easier to steer with the seat unit than with the carrycot, only because it’s easier to see over the seat than it is over the carrycot.

You also don’t have to worry too much about tricky terrain waking your baby. The seat has spring suspension technology, and the all-wheel suspension and large EVA foam-filled tyres make for a smooth ride. No matter what terrain I tackled, it felt stable and up to the walk.

It’s not the smallest of prams, so tight village shops with narrow doors and steps weren’t the easiest to navigate without an extra pair of hands to help open doors. But larger indoor spaces, like a garden centre and a café, felt just fine.

What is the Nuna TRIV lx seat unit like?

With the click of 2 buttons and the removal of the post adaptors, it’s easy to switch from the carrycot to the seat unit. You simply click the seat on.

There are 3 recline positions to play with, including a near-flat option for on-the-go naps. Adjusting the recline is smooth: you just flick up the lever on the back of the seat and bring the seat up or down.

At first, adjusting the harness felt a little tricky to get right, as I needed to change it depending on whether my daughter was sitting or lying down. To do this, you open up the shoulder pads and use the adjustment straps to make them tighter or looser. After a few tries, though, I got used to it.

I really like the padding of the seat. Not only does it feel comfortable, but the linen-effect fabric looks really smart too.

Both my daughter and I are still loving the parent-facing setup, but you can easily switch to world-facing by unclicking the seat, spinning it around and clicking it back in.

Like the carrycot, the seat comes with vents, plus the addition of a peekaboo window. You can also make the seat longer or shorter using the adjustable calf support, so it should last as my daughter grows.

What is the Nuna TRIV lx handle like?

The handle is leatherette, so it feels pretty luxurious and offers a good amount of grip. I found it comfortable to use on short trips, longer walks and when using the hand mitts.

The handle has 4 positions, which meant it was suitable for both me, at 5ft 5in, and my partner, who is 6ft. To adjust it, you need 2 hands: pull the adjustment buttons on either side and slide the handle up or down.

What is the Nuna TRIV lx hood like?

I loved the hood in the carrycot because it came with Nuna’s Dream drape. And if I’m honest, I wish this were available for the seat hood too.

While the seat hood comes with a quilted design and offers a good amount of coverage, it didn’t come down far enough to block out all rays, even with the extra extension. This meant that, at times, I positioned my body to act as a shield.

That said, the canopy proved no problem in wind and rain, especially with the rain cover over it.

It’s straightforward to adjust the hood: you just pull it open and shut. To extend the hood further, you can unzip it, which was simple to do while walking.

The seat hood also comes with a peekaboo window, which would be useful when world-facing, while the vent at the top and side allows for added airflow.

How good are the Nuna TRIV lx wheels and brakes?

The wheels are brilliant. They have all-wheel suspension and EVA foam-filled tyres. The front wheels measure 19.8cm, while the chunky rear wheels are 29cm.

The front wheels lock, which helps you navigate uneven terrain, although I found the pram easy enough to push over grass and little bumps without needing to do so.

Braking was just as easy, especially if you’re right-footed. Positioned on the right-hand side, you just flick the pedal up or down. When parked on sloping ground, the pushchair didn’t budge.

How practical is the Nuna TRIV lx basket?

Able to hold up to 10kg, the basket was big enough to fill with anything and everything. I was able to fit my changing bag, shopping, jackets and more.

The only drawback is that I found it a little tricky to reach things from the back, especially when the seat was reclined. That said, when the calf support was down, there was no way items were going anywhere.

What’s in the box?

Does the Nuna TRIV lx have any sustainability features?

The build quality and longevity score top marks. As the name suggests, everything about this pram feels luxe. From the leatherette handle to the canopy hood, the build quality and fabric durability feel carefully thought through.

The bundle comes complete for all weathers and includes a carrycot and seat unit, so it works from newborn use up to 22kg. Not that the pushchair feels like it might need replacing, but it’s good to know that all Nuna products are covered with a 5-year warranty. You can also increase this by an extra 2 years if you register your purchase on the brand’s website. This gives reassurance that the pushchair could be used for multiple little ones or passed on to friends.

It’s hard to believe this bundle comes packaged neatly into one cardboard box, all of which was able to be recycled.

Is the Nuna TRIV lx All-Season Set worth the money?

It’s a big yes from me. There was next to nothing that this pram couldn’t do. My daughter was able to use the carrycot up until she was 6 months old, and I think she would have happily stayed in there long after, before moving on to the seat unit with ease.

I also like the fact that you invest in one bundle and have pretty much everything you need. This saves you from scouring Google for all the additional extras you can kit your pram out with during each season.

This makes the pushchair best for all-season walkers and those who don’t want to let the temperamental Great British weather stop them from strolling.

At £850, this set certainly isn't the cheapest. But considering the fact that you can use it day in, day out and again and again, I think the cost per push could be justified for the right user.

MadeForMums verdict:

Arriving in just one box, able to be clicked together in minutes and ready for many terrains, this all-weather pushchair makes adventuring outdoors easy. From season to season, it’s ready for whatever the forecast brings.

Its all-terrain wheels mean you won’t have to stick only to 'pushchair-friendly' walks, its comfy carrycot and seat ensure the cosiness levels aren’t lost, while added extras like the hidden pockets, large basket and all-weather features help make parenting easier. It also folds down pretty neatly and stands on its own.

Yes, the seat hood won’t block out every single ray, and yes, this won’t be the cheapest purchase you will ever make. But whatever path you pick — be it uneven ground, smooth city surfaces or a day running errands — the Nuna TRIV lx will follow.
