The Momcozy Mobile Flow M9 is a cordless wearable breast pump that sits inside your regular bra, allowing you to express without being attached to wires or tubes. Its breast-shaped design and quiet motor aim to make pumping more discreet.

At £269.99 for the double pump, or £159.99 for the single pump, it offers up to 300mmHg suction and 15 intensity settings, and costs less than premium wearable pumps such as the original Elvie (£269 for the single pump).

About our parent tester

Freelance journalist Libby tested the Momcozy Mobile Flow M9 while exclusively breastfeeding her 3-month-old baby and caring for a toddler. She used it mainly during car journeys and at home during her baby’s naps. Libby is a feature writer for the national press and regularly reviews parenting products, with a focus on honest, real-life testing.

How easy is the Momcozy Mobile Flow M9 to set up?

It was very easy to set up. I used just the Quick Start guide and the app to get going. I didn't immediately need to use the longer instruction booklet, but the instructions and diagrams were clear, easy to follow, and the app itself is very intuitive.

Assembling each pump takes seconds – the only thing that will delay you getting started is making sure you clean and sterilise the relevant parts before first use, by washing with soap and water and then boiling the relevant parts, as instructed.

Without the app, I wouldn’t have felt as comfortable using the pump “blind” at first, although you can control it using the power and intensity buttons on the pump itself. Once I’d got used to it through the app, using the manual controls became much simpler. Using it without Bluetooth may also help preserve battery life.

How comfortable is the Momcozy M9 to wear?

The pump is comfortable enough to wear, but it’s certainly not a ‘pop it in and forget about it’ situation.

The pump fits comfortably inside my nursing bra, although you do need to adjust your bra to get a fit that is secure enough to hold the pump in place, but not so tight that it feels uncomfortable. I would suggest dedicating a specific bra to pumping if you can, as regularly wearing the pumps inside one bra may stretch it out over time.

The pump is made of a smooth, soft-touch plastic and silicone and feels comfortable against the skin. The suction is not unpleasant – three flange insert sizes are included so you can choose the ideal fit.

The suction options go from 1 to 15 – I typically stayed on the lower settings and had no trouble expressing.

Wearing the pump while seated upright — watching TV, typing on the computer or as a passenger in a car — is perfectly doable and effective. However, I do question how realistic it is to do much else while pumping.

My impression is that many breastfeeding parents nurse their baby on one breast while pumping from the other, or pump while cleaning up the house and so on. This isn’t something I felt able to do while wearing this pump, nor could I look after my toddler while using it, or lift my baby from his crib. This is because you can’t bend forward while using it — the milk can tip into the pump mechanism or spill, which could affect how it operates.

I stuck to using it only when the children were sleeping or we were on a car journey (I used it as a passenger rather than while driving, as I didn’t want another distraction on the road!).

How discreet is the Momcozy M9?

The pump isn’t loud — Momcozy states it operates at around 42dB — but there’s no pretending you’re not using it.

There are no beeps or other electronic noises, but it does make a quiet, rhythmic mechanical pumping sound, while in operation which is fairly obvious although not distracting (it wasn’t loud enough to wake a sleeping child or partner, or distract from watching TV).

However, if you were to use it in an office it would definitely be noticed by your colleagues seated nearby. The same applies on the bus or train – it’s not an offensive sound, but it can most certainly be heard.

It can also be seen – it noticeably increases the outline of my chest and can be seen peeping out of a shirt or top. A higher-neck top would hide it better, but would also make accessing the pump more difficult.

How portable is the Momcozy M9?

Each pump weighs around 300 grams, somewhat heavier than competitors such as the Elvie or Medela wearable pumps.

It comes with a sturdy carry case, making it easy to keep the cables and accessories organised while protecting the pumps on the move.

You would need a decent-sized handbag to pack it up in, but if not then you can just take the case by its handle. It’s better if you drive than if you commute on foot or by public transport, but you could decant everything into a bag that suited you better if the case doesn’t work for you.

The battery life is good, at up to 2.5 hours of pumping time, around 4 to 5 sessions worth of pumping per breast, although they take about three hours to fully charge.

What can you realistically do while pumping?

Realistically, you can do computer work or other desk-based work while pumping, or go for a gentle walk, but you might struggle to do most chores or anything more vigorous or varied, such as actual childcare.

How well does the Momcozy M9 fit into daily life?

I would say the pump is for when you’re not with the baby – travelling to or from an engagement, or while at work – I wouldn’t feel confident using it with a two year old jumping all over me or bending down to pick up the baby while wearing it.

I’d happily use the pump in the car, or on a video call (muted in a conference call it would be no problem, and if you were the one talking, your voice would drown out the pumping noise).

Anywhere more public, like a café, would require a bit more confidence, but it could certainly be done without feeling exposed, although not guaranteed that no one would notice at all.

It’s a great option if, like me, you’re exclusively breastfeeding but just need the flexibility to be away from your baby now and then while maintaining expressing opportunities.

How effective is the suction and milk expression?

I’ve also used the Momcozy M6 and the Elvie, and I found the Momcozy M9 much more effective than the earlier M6 model, and broadly similar to the Elvie in output in my testing.

I’ve never had a particularly large milk supply and am not generally able to get an awful lot out when I pump. With the M9, on an average 30-minute session using Milk Boost mode, I expressed around 60ml per breast, which isn’t bad at all for me – and of course, being able to pump both breasts at once makes things far more efficient.

Even if you weren’t to pump both at once, having two pumps is useful for battery life and convenience, as one can be cleaned or charged while the other is in use.

I can’t speak for exclusive pumpers, but I suspect many would use this as a portable option alongside a stronger plug-in pump for regular at-home sessions.

How easy is the Momcozy M9 to control?

Controlling the pumps is incredibly easy, particularly using the app (I found the app gave me a much better and more instant sense of what I was doing – and I preferred using one of the pre-programmed pumping modes rather than just manually choosing the suction during a session). There are 15 suction levels and two programmes, and you can create your own preferences, too.

Be aware that the pump starts in whatever mode you last had it on as soon as you switch it on each time, so if you don’t want the pump to start at a higher setting than expected, switch the pump on and choose your desired suction before you put it in your bra – then press pause, put the pump on, and start it up again.

How easy is the Momcozy M9 to clean?

The pump and parts are very easy to take apart and to reassemble. Momcozy describes it as having four parts that require washing by hand, but some of these parts do break down into smaller pieces.

Still, it wasn’t a problematic number of pieces, nor particularly fiddly in my opinion.

What’s in the box?

How sustainable is the Momcozy M9?

All the parts are washable and reusable, but the manufacturer advises replacing most of them after around 3 months, which could feel wasteful if you pump regularly over a long period.

However, that may not be necessary in reality, especially if this is not used as your main pump or you only pump occasionally.

The packaging is fairly minimal, with everything supplied inside a carry case within a cardboard box.

Is the Momcozy M9 worth the money?

Yes, it’s worth the money. It compares very favourably with other wearable double pumps which can cost almost double the price, and do not offer many obvious advantages over the Momcozy other than being slightly more discreet when it comes to size and sound. The more expensive models are still, in my experience, noticeable – just slightly less so.

The Momcozy M9 is also a really attractive item (I love the shade of pink) and quite tactile.

MadeForMums verdict:

The Momcozy Mobile Flow M9 would best suit someone who wants more freedom while pumping, without being tied to a plug or tubing. It’s best for multitasking while working at a desk or travelling in a car, rather than chasing a toddler around or doing housework. (Although it does make those things possible in theory, if you move very carefully!)

It’s an excellent option for travelling or using while working (from home or even in the office, depending on your relationship with your co-workers) but anyone exclusively pumping may still want a stronger, hospital-grade style pump for regular at-home sessions to support regular output.
