Pros

Cons

The latest addition to Ergobaby’s Omni range, the Omni Deluxe is a premium soft-structured baby carrier aimed at parents who want one carrier for everyday use from the newborn stage through to toddlerhood. It features crossable cushioned straps, lumbar support, six storage pockets, a weather hood and an adjustable head-support pillow.

At £199.90, it sits at the higher end of the carrier market, but it is adaptable, durable and designed to offer longevity, with four carrying positions. It can be used from newborn, from 7lbs/3.2kg, right up to around age 4, or 45lbs/20.4kg, making it an attractive option for parents looking for a long-term carrier.

How easy is the Ergobaby Omni Deluxe to put on and adjust?

The Ergobaby Omni Deluxe Baby Carrier isn’t the most intuitive carrier at first, largely because it can be configured for multiple carrying positions and ages. You can wear it on your front or back, with your baby facing inwards or outwards, so it took me a little while to be sure I had the straps and panels in the correct position.

Once it was set up, though, it was easy to take on and off. I liked how customisable it felt, and I’d rather have a carrier that takes a little more learning but feels secure and comfortable in use than one that is simpler but less supportive.

Can you put the Ergobaby Omni Deluxe on by yourself?

Yes, you can put the carrier on without help, but it takes a little practice. You need two hands to fasten the waist strap, so you’ll need someone to hold your baby or somewhere safe to put them down first.

Once the waist buckle is secure, you pick your baby up and fasten and tighten the rest of the straps around them. I tried both shoulder-strap configurations and found the rucksack style most comfortable, but it’s useful to have different options depending on what suits your body and baby best.

Are the Ergobaby Omni Deluxe instructions easy to follow?

The videos were a really helpful guide. I used them to check I was wearing the carrier correctly in the different positions, and watching someone else put it on was by far the easiest way to learn.

What age range does the Ergobaby Omni Deluxe cover?

The carrier is suitable from 7lbs/3.2kg up to 45lbs/20.4kg, around 4 years old. The seat widens with Velcro straps as your child grows, and you can switch from front carrying to back carrying as they get heavier.

I tested it with both my 4-month-old son and 3-year-old daughter, and it worked well for both. I was pleasantly surprised by how comfortable it felt carrying my daughter on my back, it’s like giving a piggyback without having to hold on to your child or worry about them holding on to you.

I stopped using a baby carrier with her when she was around 18 months, as she was getting too heavy on my front. If I’d had the option to carry her on my back, as you can with the Ergobaby Omni Deluxe, I think I definitely would have continued for longer.

How comfortable is the Ergobaby Omni Deluxe for parents?

The carrier is comfortable to wear for both short trips and longer stretches. We used it to take our son on countryside walks that would have been inaccessible with a pram, and it was great for busy city trips, too.

The straps are cushioned, so they don’t dig into your shoulders, and the wide lumbar waistband helps distribute the baby’s weight evenly. I had no problems wearing it for longer walks, and it made carrying my son feel noticeably easier on my back.

How comfortable and supported does your baby feel in the Ergobaby Omni Deluxe?

My son seemed comfortable in the carrier on short walks, whether that was the nursery run or quick errands, and longer excursions. He never got restless or fussy, and would usually alternate between sleeping and looking around happily.

The seat is designed to hold your baby in their natural sitting position to support their hips and spine and is designed to be ergonomic in each of the carry positions.

It’s easy to tighten the straps so your baby feels snug and well supported against your chest. In testing, I never felt like my son was going to slump down or shift out of position, even when I had to bend down or lean forward.

The carrier also has a head support that you can flip up for newborns, then fold back down once your baby is around 4 months old and has better head control. It buttons into place in each position.

How adjustable is the Ergobaby Omni Deluxe?

The straps and waist belt are easy to tighten and loosen, and you can adjust them while your baby is in the carrier to get the right fit. The waist strap also adjusts quickly, so it’s no issue for more than one person to use it – we could even swap over while out and about.

It’s also easy to adjust the width of the seat as your baby grows, thanks to colour-coded Velcro panels labelled with the height requirements for each setting.

Switching between carrying positions is straightforward, too. There are sliders to adjust depending on whether you want your baby to face inwards or outwards, although you do have to remember that you slide them in for out and out for in.

How breathable is the Ergobaby Omni Deluxe in warm weather?

Ergobaby bills the Omni Deluxe as its most breathable carrier, thanks to its mesh fabric. The fabric felt soft against the skin and offered good airflow in testing. We used the carrier during the summer months and never felt our son was getting too hot.

We treated the carrier as an extra layer and dressed our son accordingly, with one layer fewer than if he had been uncovered in the pram. This seemed to work, and he never seemed too hot or cold in the carrier, even on longer walks in warm weather.

Are the Ergobaby Omni Deluxe’s extra features useful?

The removable pouch at the bottom of the carrier was really useful for carrying essentials. I found it awkward to carry a bag on my shoulder while wearing the carrier, although a backpack was fine, so I would usually just put my phone, keys and card into the pouch when heading out.

I didn’t use the other storage pockets all that much. Each one is quite small, and I found spreading my belongings out between them just meant I couldn’t remember what I had stashed where. Having a dedicated pocket for my phone and keys was useful, especially when I didn’t want to carry a separate bag, but the smaller pockets felt less practical for everyday use.

I initially thought I wouldn’t use the hood, but I was extremely grateful for it when I lost my son’s sunhat on a particularly hot day. After that, I used it regularly to shield him from the sun or give a little extra cover if we got caught in light rain.

Is the Ergobaby Omni Deluxe easy to carry, store and clean?

Yes, you can bundle the carrier underneath a pram or into a bag. It’s flexible and lightweight, so it’s easy to transport. I would usually stash it under the pushchair in case my baby got fussy on walks.

There is no included carry bag, but it fits fine in a tote bag or rucksack.

The carrier is machine washable. We did wash the carrier in the washing machine, and it held up fine. It took a little while to dry out on the washing line, so I wouldn’t recommend washing it if you’ll need to use it later the same day.

How would you rate the Ergobaby Omni Deluxe’s build quality and durability?

The durability is very impressive. It’s a sturdy carrier that feels built to last. The material feels strong and resilient, and the design puts substance over style. It’s comfortable, practical and feels like it will stand up to long-term use.

The carrier feels durable enough to have a long lifespan if used regularly across the full age range. No recycled or OEKO-TEX-certified materials were listed in the product information we checked.

What does the Ergobaby Omni Deluxe look like?

If you’re looking for a stylish carrier, I don’t think this is the most design-led option on the market. It prioritises substance over style, and is clearly designed to be practical, supportive and durable rather than especially sleek.

That said, it still looks smart enough for everyday use, and the neutral colour options should suit most parents.

Is the Ergobaby Omni Deluxe worth the money?

At £199.90, the Ergobaby Omni Deluxe is a premium carrier, but it does feel sturdy, comfortable and versatile enough to justify the price if you plan to use it regularly over several years.

The carrier is designed to ergonomically support your baby right through from the early months to toddlerhood. For me, this longevity makes it more than worth the money. You could get years of use from the carrier, especially if you use it with more than one child.

The fabric feels premium, and the build is sturdy. It really feels like a product that will stand the test of time and not wear down or degrade over years of use.

However, the biggest question is whether you need the extra Deluxe features. Ergobaby’s Omni Breeze and Omni Dream carriers are cheaper and offer the same four carry positions, the same weight range and a similar ergonomic design. For me, the six storage pockets and extra strap markings were useful rather than essential, so I would weigh up whether those additions are worth the higher price for your family.

Where can I buy the Ergobaby Omni Deluxe baby carrier?

MadeForMums verdict:

The Ergobaby Omni Deluxe is a comfortable, supportive and highly adaptable baby carrier that works well from the newborn stage through to toddlerhood and beyond. It took a little practice to set up at first, but once adjusted, it was easy to use, comfortable for longer walks and practical for everyday errands.

Its biggest strengths are the cushioned straps, supportive waistband, breathable fabric and flexibility across different carrying positions. The storage pouch is genuinely useful, although I found the smaller pockets less essential.

At £199.90, it’s a premium option, and parents may want to compare it with the cheaper Ergobaby Omni Breeze and Omni Dream before buying. However, if you want a sturdy, long-lasting carrier with plenty of adjustability and some useful extra storage, the Omni Deluxe is a strong all-rounder.
