In a nutshell

A sturdy, comfortable and adaptable pushchair that suits all-terrain family life, but its bulky fold and weight make it less ideal for small cars, tight spaces and frequent lifting.

Pros

Cons

The CYBEX Talos S Lux is a mid-to-premium all-terrain pushchair aimed at families who want one pram for everyday pavements, park walks and bumpier weekend adventures.

Compared with lighter, city-focused pushchairs, it feels more supportive, stable and adaptable, but that comes at the cost of a larger frame, heavier fold and trickier handling in tight spaces. Because of its size, it will suit families with room to store it at home and a decent-sized car boot.

About our parent tester Ellie is a journalist working across print, podcasting and radio. A first-time mum, she used the CYBEX Talos S Lux daily around the parks, cafés and many hills of her home city, Bristol. She also took the pushchair on car and train journeys across the UK, testing it on a variety of terrains.

How easy is the CYBEX Talos S Lux pushchair to assemble?

I was happy to find that the Talos was quick to assemble. Easy-to-follow illustrated instructions and clear set-up videos on YouTube made the whole process simple. I’m not a natural at putting products like this together, but it only took me around 10 minutes.

How does the CYBEX Cot S Lux carrycot perform for a newborn?

The Cot S Lux performed well for my young baby, feeling comfortable, supportive and reassuringly robust for newborn use.

There’s an inbuilt carry handle, the frame is robust and good suspension meant my baby didn’t get bounced around much.

CYBEX states that the Cot S Lux is approved for overnight sleeping. We didn’t test it for nighttime sleep, but the mattress felt comfortable and good quality, and my baby slept easily in it during walks.

One thing to be aware of is that there are no straps inside the Cot S Lux, so I found my baby could slide down slightly when tackling stairs or particularly steep hills.

How practical is the Cot S Lux carrycot for everyday use?

The design feels sturdy and solid, and the Cot S Lux itself is deep and spacious – intended for babies up to 9kg. Our baby is small for her age and fit comfortably into the cot until around six months, when she began to get restless lying on her back.

However, as the Cot S Lux is larger than some other carrycots, it can feel unwieldy, both when attached to the frame and as a standalone bassinet. It took up a lot of room in my house and car when disconnected from the pushchair frame.

How does the CYBEX Talos S Lux seat unit work with the newborn nest?

The carrycot and seat unit settings are easily swapped over in a matter of seconds. And while it still feels supportive and sturdy, I found the seat unit much less unwieldy than the carrycot.

The newborn nest means the Talos S Lux can be used from birth and offers a more compact, flexible alternative to the Cot S Lux. It has straps to hold your baby in place – which felt reassuring but could be fiddly with a newborn.. While it feels less robust than the carrycot, it also takes up less space – so preference depends on your priorities.

How comfortable and adjustable is the seat unit?

As our baby had fairly good head control, we felt comfortable using the upright seat unit from 6 months onwards.

The straps were secure and easy to adjust, but they do sit a bit high for smaller babies. The seat unit has 3 recline positions: completely upright, which my baby never seemed particularly comfortable in; partially reclined, which she preferred for watching the world go by; and lie-flat, which worked well for naps.

A small lever makes it simple to transition between these settings with your baby in place, meaning it’s easy to recline the seat when they are ready to nap. The seat unit can also be easily unclipped and flipped around to be either front or back-facing – I even did this mid-walk if my baby was getting grouchy.

How easy is the CYBEX Talos S Lux to fold and unfold?

To fold the pushchair:

While the Talos can be folded down with the seat still attached, pressing and sliding the two buttons on the handlebar at once can be quite fiddly. I struggled to fold it down or carry it one-handed while holding my baby

How compact is the CYBEX Talos S Lux when folded?

This was my biggest issue with the Talos S Lux: even when folded, it’s still fairly large and heavy. Its folded dimensions are 530mm x 590mm x 780mm. It is technically self-standing when folded, but isn’t very stable, and is hard to lift due to the weight. I needed both hands to carry it safely. It was too big to fit in the boot of our Mini, but did fit into the boot of larger cars.

Bear in mind that if you’re using the carrycot setting, that would need to be detached first and would take up a decent amount of extra space.

How easy is the CYBEX Talos S Lux to push and steer?

The Talos steers well and is easy to control. It has great suspension, giving my baby a very smooth ride over uneven ground such as cobbles, grass and stony paths.

Due to its size, it’s more awkward to manoeuvre in tight spaces like cafes and takes up a fair amount of space. The flipside of the larger size is that it feels very steady and robust with a newborn on board.

How are the wheels and brakes?

The pushchair has a standard foot pedal brake that’s reliable and easy to use. One thing to watch out for is that the fabric shopping basket can occasionally get in the way of the brake if heavily loaded.

The front wheels are easy to lock and unlock with a small lever.

How much storage does the CYBEX Talos S Lux have?

I would say that the Talos is practical and adaptable to everyday life, with several well-designed features.

An adjustable handlebar made it comfortable for both me and my partner to push. The large hood with UPF50+ protection provided good shelter against rain and sun (but legs and toes can still sometimes poke out if used without the shell!). The mesh ventilation panels were also useful in hot weather, as they helped the seat feel more breathable.

The 10kg capacity shopping basket is roomy enough for at least two large bags, meaning there’s plenty of space for daily shopping trips or holding kit for long days out. I even loaded it up for a multi-day trip by train. However, the front of the basket is a bit floppy when heavily loaded.

What’s in the box?

I also received the Cot S Lux, which comes separately.

How sustainable is the CYBEX Talos S Lux?

With an aluminium frame, CYBEX’s ‘puncture-proof’ rubber tyres and good-quality fabrics, the Talos S Lux feels well-made, durable and likely to last through use with multiple children.

After several months of daily use, it was still in good condition despite bumps, scrapes and spills.

The cardboard packaging it arrived in was easily broken down and recycled.

Is the CYBEX Talos S Lux worth the money?

For me, the performance of the Talos justified the price.

The comfortable ride it gave my baby and the flexibility of the different seat settings made it a more appealing day-to-day option than the lighter-weight pushchairs I had used previously.

While its size and weight made it harder for me to store and transport, it would be a strong option for families with more space who want a reliable, adaptable pushchair for mixed terrain and everyday use.

MadeForMums verdict:

The CYBEX Talos S Lux is a sturdy, comfortable and adaptable pushchair that worked well for daily walks, hilly city routes and rougher terrain. Its biggest strengths are its smooth ride, robust build and flexible newborn-to-baby set-up, especially if you want the option of both a carrycot and seat unit.

However, it is not the easiest pushchair to fold, lift or store, and its size makes it less suited to small car boots, narrow cafés or homes short on space. It’s best for families who want a solid all-terrain pushchair and are happy to trade compactness for comfort, durability and stability.
