Pros

Cons

The Chicco Meraviglia Highchair is a multi-stage highchair that can be used from birth right through to adulthood. Built from durable and premium-feeling materials, it's designed to handle the chaos of family life while still looking sleek enough to leave out in your dining space.

The highchair’s key selling point is its multi-stage design. It starts as a reclined baby seat, then converts into a highchair, baby chair and adult chair, with a maximum weight limit of 110kg. This means it is designed to last well beyond the traditional highchair years.

At £219 the Chicco Meraviglia sits at the premium end of the highchair market, but it includes the key accessories you need in the box, including the padded insert, tray, lap bar and harness. By comparison, the Stokke Tripp Trapp (£219) and Bugaboo Giraffe (£219) are priced similarly for the highchair frame alone, with accessories such as baby sets, trays and newborn attachments usually sold separately.

This makes the Meraviglia feel like a more complete package, while its sturdy build, smart styling and multi-stage design help it feel more like a long-term piece of family furniture than a short-lived baby item.

About our parent tester

Roxy, a mum of 2 boys aged 6 years and 6 months, tested the Chicco Meraviglia Highchair at home. She received the Meraviglia when her youngest was 5 months old, so has tested it in baby mode and during the early weaning stage. Her 6-year-old son, as well as her 18-month-old and 4-year-old nephews, also tried it during meals and play.

How easy is the Chicco Meraviglia Highchair to set up?

The Meraviglia was impressively simple to assemble. From opening the box to first use took under 10 minutes, and no tools were required — everything clicked neatly into place.

The instructions could have been clearer in places, but the overall build process was still very straightforward.

How comfortable and supportive is it?

In baby mode, the seat looks extremely comfortable and supportive. The recline is useful for younger babies during supervised awake time, such as relaxed play beside the table. However, it’s too reclined to be suitable for feeding.

Once converted into highchair mode, comfort varies depending on age. My 18-month-old nephew sat very comfortably, and my 4-year-old nephew also had plenty of space.

However, during the early weaning stage, at around 6 months, there was a short period where my baby seemed a little small for the seat without the padded baby insert, which can’t be used in highchair mode. He sometimes leaned to one side and the seat felt a bit roomy. After a few weeks, once his sitting was stronger, this improved.

For older children, it still works well for mealtimes, although I’d expect children around my 6-year-old’s age to prefer it for shorter periods, as the upper back support is fairly minimal.

How adjustable is the Chicco Meraviglia Highchair?

In baby mode, there are two recline positions. Both recline positions felt comfortable for my baby, but they are quite similar. A slightly more upright option would be useful as babies get older.

The seat can be reclined while your baby is in it, which is practical, although adjusting the baby seat does require two hands (and sometimes a knee for leverage).

In highchair mode, there are five height settings and four footrest positions, all adjustable without tools. The adjustability is good overall, but for a smaller 6 month old, even the highest setting can still feel slightly low depending on table height.

The footrest works well for toddlers and older children, but my baby’s feet didn’t quite reach.

What is the tray like?

The tray is a good size for meals and messy play.

Once I got used to the mechanism, I could attach and remove the tray one-handed, although it wasn’t completely intuitive at first.

There’s no storage spot on the chair for the tray when it’s off, so you do need to find somewhere to put it.

Suction toys didn’t stick particularly well to the tray surface, though that may depend on the material of the toy.

How stable does the Chicco Meraviglia Highchair feel?

Stability is one of the Meraviglia’s strongest points. It felt extremely solid on both hard floors and carpet, with no wobbling — even when toddlers climbed in or leaned around.

The 5-point harness felt secure in testing and was easy to adjust. The straps stayed flat rather than twisting, which makes getting children in and out much easier.

How easy is the Chicco Meraviglia Highchair to clean?

Cleaning the Meraviglia is quick and simple. The seat fabrics are removable and washable, and for everyday mess, most spills wiped away in under a couple of minutes.

I didn’t notice food getting trapped in hard-to-reach areas, and the frame and tray surfaces clean easily with a cloth.

How much space does it take up?

The Meraviglia has a sturdy footprint, but it didn’t feel overly bulky in my dining space.

It doesn’t fold completely flat, but it does fold down to a smaller size and stands independently when folded.

It’s a manageable weight — solid rather than lightweight — but I could carry it between rooms without too much trouble.

What does it look like in the home?

This is one of the most attractive highchairs I’ve had in my home. The model I tested is black with wood accents (the Ebony colourway), and it looks far more like a piece of modern furniture than baby kit.

It blends beautifully with my dining area, and I’m happy to leave it out full-time.

What’s in the box?

Is the Chicco Meraviglia Highchair worth the money?

The Meraviglia is definitely a premium-priced highchair, and the build quality reflects that. It feels durable enough to last through multiple children or be resold later.

However, there is a short stage at around 6 to 8 months where it feels slightly less suited. It's too roomy without padding, but past the stage where the baby insert can be used in highchair mode. Because of that, I might hesitate to pay full price purely for early weaning, but as a long-term, multi-stage chair, it does offer strong overall value.

Where can I buy the Chicco Meraviglia Highchair?

How sustainable is the Chicco Meraviglia Highchair?

The packaging felt protective without being excessive and was mostly cardboard and recyclable materials.

The chair itself feels robust and durable enough to last for years, making it suitable for reuse or resale.

MadeForMums verdict:

The Chicco Meraviglia Highchair is a stylish, sturdy and genuinely long-lasting option for families who want a highchair that blends well into their home well and grows with their child.

It’s best suited to those with space to keep it out and who value premium design and durability. While there’s a brief adjustment period during early weaning, its stability, ease of cleaning and longevity make it a strong overall investment.
