The Toniebox Lite is now officially available in the UK, following its earlier launch in the US and Canada. It costs £59.99 for the Toniebox Lite Rubie Starter Set, making it a more accessible way to get started with Tonies.

Designed for children aged 1+, the new player is smaller than the Toniebox 2, with a compact hard-shell design intended to fit easily into a backpack for holidays, sleepovers and visits to grandparents.

The Toniebox Lite Rubie Starter Set costs £59.99 in the UK and is available now directly from Tonies.

You can also find the Toniebox Lite at Amazon, Natural Baby Shower, Currys, Boots and Smyths Toys, although the bundles and prices available may vary by retailer.

The starter set comes with the Toniebox Lite and a Rubie Creative-Tonie, which has Rubie’s Amazing Adventures already loaded onto it. Parents can also use Rubie to add their own messages, songs and stories through the tonies app.

There are also Toniebox Lite Sleeve Bundles for £69.99, available in Berry Pink, Arctic Blue and Sunset Red. The colourful silicone sleeves let children personalise the otherwise minimal grey player while adding some extra protection against everyday bumps and tumbles.

What is the Toniebox Lite?

Toniebox Lite 4

The Toniebox Lite is a smaller, simpler version of the Toniebox, designed to give children the core Tonies listening experience without a screen.

Measuring 100 x 100 x 104mm, it has the familiar child-friendly Toniebox controls. Children place a Tonie on top to start listening, squeeze the ears to change the volume and tap or tilt the player to skip, fast-forward or rewind.

It also has a Sleep Timer that gradually reduces the volume before switching the player off automatically, potentially making it useful for bedtime stories.

Does Toniebox Lite work with existing Tonies?

TonieboxLite-Gruffalo-RGB

Yes, which is particularly useful if your family already has a collection.

The Toniebox Lite works with the full existing Tonies library, including Tonies Originals, bedtime and learning content and characters from children's entertainment. Families with another Toniebox can therefore use the Tonies they already own with the Lite.

There is one notable exception. Tonieplay interactive games don't work with Toniebox Lite and remain exclusive to Toniebox 2.

Once a Tonie has been played for the first time, it can be played again without Wi-Fi. There's also an Offline Mode that lets parents turn connectivity off altogether.

How is Toniebox Lite different from Toniebox 2?

The biggest differences are the smaller design and the features you get.

Toniebox Lite focuses on the core screen-free listening experience, while Toniebox 2 remains Tonies' more feature-packed player. Toniebox 2 includes Tonieplay interactive games, a dynamic Light Ring, Bedtime Mode and a Sunrise Alarm.

The Lite, meanwhile, offers up to six hours of playtime per charge, charges via USB-C and supports both wired and Bluetooth headphones. It connects to 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi.

Parents can also use the free tonies app to play, pause, skip or restart audio, set volume limits, check the battery level and manage their child's Tonies collection.

Who is the Toniebox Lite designed for?

The smaller size makes the Lite particularly suited to families looking for a Toniebox that's easier to take away from home, whether that's for a holiday, a sleepover or a weekend at the grandparents.

It could also appeal to families buying their first Toniebox who don't need the extra Toniebox 2 features, or households looking for another player so siblings can listen to different stories at the same time.

The simple controls are designed to encourage younger children to operate the player themselves, while parents can keep an eye on settings through the tonies app.

Where can you buy the Toniebox Lite in the UK?

The Toniebox Lite is available in the UK now, with the Rubie Starter Set priced at £59.99.

That's a major update from when the player was first announced, when it was only available to order in the US and Canada and Tonies hadn't confirmed UK pricing or a release date.

For parents who were holding off until it crossed the Atlantic, the wait is over. The £59.99 starter set includes a Rubie Creative-Tonie, so children have something to listen to straight away.

You can buy the Toniebox Lite directly from Tonies. It's also available from Amazon, Natural Baby Shower, Currys, Boots and Smyths Toys.
