Amazon MGM Studios is bringing the world of Squishmallows to the big screen in a new feature film based on the hugely popular plush toy brand.

The studio has struck a deal with Squishmallows creator Jazwares to develop and co-produce the movie with Beau Flynn, producer of Disney's Moana.

For fans wondering whether their favourite Squishmallow will make an appearance, there are currently plenty of possibilities. The brand has more than 3,000 original characters, from Cam the Cat and Bigfoots to Axolotls and Lil Gouda, a sentient grilled cheese.

What we know about the Squishmallows movie so far

The film is being developed as a major family-friendly feature, with Amazon MGM reportedly looking to create a global event movie around the brand.

However, there is still plenty we don't know. It has not yet been confirmed whether the film will be animated, live-action or a mixture of both, and no cast or other creative details have been announced. That means fans will have to wait a little longer to find out exactly how the soft, squishy characters will make the leap from bedroom shelves to cinema screens.

Squishmallows have become a global phenomenon

Since launching in 2017, Squishmallows have grown from a plush toy range into a global lifestyle franchise.

The brand is now sold in more than 60 countries and has sold more than 600 million toys worldwide. Jazwares says two Squishmallows are sold every second globally.

The collection's appeal also stretches well beyond young children. The characters have built a following among teens, adults and dedicated collectors, while the brand has expanded into products including clothing, beauty, home décor and other lifestyle goods.

Squishmallows also have a particularly strong presence on social media, with more than 15 billion organic social impressions across TikTok, Instagram and Snapchat.

Who is making the Squishmallows film?

Producer Beau Flynn is behind the new project, having worked on a string of major studio films including Moana, Jungle Cruise, Black Adam and Netflix's Red Notice.

Flynn is also currently producing an animated Hello Kitty film for Warner Bros. Pictures Animation and New Line Cinema, which is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on 21 July 2028.

The announcement comes ahead of a major milestone for Squishmallows, with the brand set to celebrate its 10th anniversary in 2027.

When will the Squishmallows movie be released?

There is currently no confirmed release date for the Squishmallows film.

Amazon MGM and Jazwares have not yet announced the cast, format or plot, so it could be some time before we see the finished movie.

For now, fans have more than 3,000 Squishmallows characters to choose from while they wait to discover which of the cuddly favourites could be heading to the big screen.
