Parents are rethinking what childhood looks like in 2026 — and it's less about screens and more about real-world adventure, according to Pinterest’s first-ever Parenting Trend Report.

From sensory play ideas to road trip snack hacks and 90s-inspired nurseries, families are using Pinterest to plan experience-rich childhoods that feel intentional, creative and connected.
Search data from the platform shows a sharp rise in screen-free activities, outdoor learning and positive discipline, as millennial mums look for practical ways to build meaningful moments into everyday life.
Screen-smart kids and the rise of real-world play
If you are trying to reduce screen time at home, you are not alone. Searches for “screen free activities” are up 200% year on year on Pinterest, alongside “no phone summer” which has surged by 340% and “family traditions ideas,” up 200%.
The report suggests parents are craving a more positive online space to plan offline experiences. Broadcaster Ally Love, a new mum, shared how she uses the platform to stay grounded.
As a new mum, I’ve been craving an online space that feels hopeful, creative, and, most importantly, judgment-free. Because parenting can be a lot. Pinterest has become my feel-good corner of the internet: where I collect ideas, plan little adventures, and get inspired without the comparison spiral. It helps me stay focused on what actually matters, raising a smart, kind, joyful kid, and keeping my own energy grounded in positivity and creativity.

The shift is clear. Families are planning garden movie nights, themed watch parties and sports-inspired celebrations that turn entertainment into shared rituals rather than solo scrolling.
Learning beyond the classroom
Education is moving beyond worksheets and into daily life. Searches for “educational activities for kids” are up 280%, while “outdoor learning” has increased by 65%.

Even family photos are part of the story, with “outdoor family photoshoot ideas” up 540%, showing parents want to capture these everyday learning moments.
Experience-rich travel, without the hefty price tag
Big, expensive holidays are not the only goal for 2026. Instead, families are focusing on the journey itself.
According to GWI data cited in the report, 45% of parents who use Pinterest monthly say experiencing something new is a key factor when choosing a travel destination.
Searches reflect this more mindful approach:

Parents are packing smart snacks, creating cosy backseat set-ups and printing activities to avoid handing over a tablet. Memory-making is just as important as the destination, with travel photobooks and vision boards helping families document their adventures.
Home as playground, classroom and creativity lab
For many families, home is where kids play, learn and burn off energy.
Searches for “life skills activities for kids” are up 100%, while “fun physical activities for kids” have jumped 340%. For younger children, “movement activities for toddlers” are up 145%.

At the same time, there is rising interest in luxury baby clothes and high-quality strollers, pointing to a desire for fewer, better things.
